Did you know gratitude can improve your mental health? Many studies over the past decade have found that people who focus on gratitude can reduce stress and improve both physical and mental health.

Individuals who consciously count their blessings tend to be happier and less depressed. Writing about things they were grateful for, rather than daily irritations, helped participants feel more optimistic and better about their lives. Additionally, individuals who expressed gratitude exercised more and had fewer visits to physicians.

Giving thanks and counting blessings can also help people sleep better, lower stress and improve interpersonal relationships. The ‘three good things’ exercise has been shown to improve depression and overall happiness in as little as a couple of weeks. Finally, a large study found that thankfulness predicted a significantly lower risk of various mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety.
